The attorney had attended one of my continuing education classes. He wanted a mortgage lending expert witness who could “teach the case” to the jury, getting them to understand the complex issues involved.
The wording he used helped me tie the importance of teaching or training experience to the ability to communicate through expert testimony. Triers of fact, juries, judges and arbitrators all need varying levels of “training” to properly understand the issues involved in mortgage expert witness testimony.
Aside from the obvious experience in the specific field or profession involved, it is my opinion that an expert who can successfully communicate the content of his/her testimony to non-experts will be of the greatest value to the triers of fact.
